The team at Pharicode is full of passionate, skilled, and enthusiastic developers, architects, and engineers. If there is one thing that we all have in common, it is our love for IT and business process improvement, especially for our federal clients.
The “Pharicode Feature” is a blog series that will give you an inside look at the work and lives of the consultants at Pharicode. Our consultants will share their stories with you and lead you down the path that brought them to where they are today. Let’s dive in!
This “Pharicode Feature” spotlights Ashley Pressley, a Service Delivery Director and Solutions Architect at Pharicode, based out of Washington D.C.
How were you first introduced to the IT world? What was your first IT-related job?
Ashley: I actually got my very first taste of the professional IT world while working as an Administrative Assistant for a branding agency in Los Angeles. They recognized that I had some tech-savvy skills, and asked me to start managing their mail and web servers.
From there, I became a PC Support Specialist at a Sheriff's Office in Florida. Fixing computer and printer issues for our boys (and girls) in green! They quickly realized I could handle Dreamweaver and Visual Basic, so I started building external and internal websites for them.
Can you give us a little more detail? What other jobs have you had working with ServiceNow/Azure/etc.?
Ashley: After the Sheriff's Office, just prior to Pharicode, I worked as a Web Developer for a government contractor in Tennessee where I was the sole developer. I picked-up a mass amount of knowledge; learning a great variety of technologies at our customers' behests. One of my first projects was to assist Oak Ridge National Laboratory with their ServiceNow instance. Despite never having heard of the platform, I dove right in and quickly mastered Reporting and Performance Analytics. Having started in the metrics-side of things, I had access to a wide variety of modules, rather than just ITSM, which really vaulted my knowledge across the platform.
What are your top skills, certifications, interests?
Ashley: I love to troubleshoot; helping someone fix something that is frustrating to them is one of my favourite challenges to overcome. I definitely enjoy doing development outside of ServiceNow- every step from building a clean LAMP stack, to writing an interactive and data-driven website in a variety of coding languages.
My current certifications are:
ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist for ITSM, HRSD, Vulnerability Response, Vendor Risk Management
ServiceNow Certified Application Developer
ServiceNow Certified System Administrator
ServiceNow Knowledge16 Hack-a-Thon winner and Knowledge15 Hack-a-Thon finalist
CompTIA Network+ and A+
What are your plans for the future of your career in this industry?
Ashley: I want to learn as much as I possibly can, and continue to stay updated on new technologies and services out there! There is so much knowledge, and I want to do my best to absorb and utilize it to provide the best products and solutions possible. And, of course, have fun while doing so!
Outside of work, what are some of your interests?
Ashley: Board and roleplaying games (like Dungeons & Dragons, yes!); I enjoy having a good time, learning strategies, and meeting new people. I love to travel, even if it is just across town to see something new; always up to go on a new adventure.
